About Picasa

For Stuart… 🙂

Why would we need Picasa if we have f-spot ? Why would we have to run it with wine when we can have native aplications doing the same ? heheh
It sucks because of that imo

  1. I have to say I was thinking the same thing myself… They are using the Qt toolkit from what I have read too, and chosen to run it using wine rather than recompile? There is also digikam which I use for quite a lot of my photography editing. I will take a look at Picasa at some point but not being able to port a Qt application to Linux native does not make sense to me.

  2. Being a long-time picasa user, there are several features that I wish f-spot had. The main one being auto-sorting by directory. Sure, I can tag things, but if I just import my whole library, all the thought that went into organizing my collection is out the window, and i have to hunt around for the right pictures. Fortunately, sorting by date is of some help, but not near as nice. Also of great help to me is the auto-import feature. I could avoid the whole tagging snafu mentioned above if I import one folder at a time, but then I’m marking stuff that I already have sorted. I also don’t expect it to make duplicates of pictures by default either. And it should stay unchecked, if I unchecked it last time. But that debate has already been aired out, and my side lost. Someday, I may be able to use f-spot instead of picasa, but today is not that day.
