There is plenty of program with equivalent features AND opensource AND native like

Those programs were around since ages, improved with time and aren’t in use just because are the new kool thing either because ported by a company known to provide nice stuff using some quite curious tricks or because is written with the new language du jour.
And yes, f-spot is based on a perversion of java that makes it completely non interesting
The cool thing about picasa for linux is that google payed to improve wine and now the community has a more functional free windows implementation. 🙂
I like to see big players put money in free software projects.
What about if they spent the same money to improve digikam or gqview?
Wasting money on a idiotic API and a system of dubious value beside diffusion is the best way to preserve it’s only value (diffusion) and stifle competition.
