  1. Wait a moment, you’re supposed to be clever, please dont say these people caught you out!!!

You have left me scarred, i now have no hope in the human race 🙁

  2. That probably depends on what you expect/hope/pray the consequences should be. Will I be charged for breaking and entering your home, putting a gun to your head, and demanding you to read the one line I posted on Sunday? I doubt it. I don’t ask that you read my blog entries. If you are going to, it’d be nice to hear your thoughts and input on heimdal
because that’s actual Gentoo work that I’ve been talking endlessly about. Hell, talk to me about mit-krb5
or go try out shishi and let me know how you like it. There’s plenty of quality stuff to talk about, if we can all just get over one line.

On the other hand, yours has been the most entertaining comment I’ve gotten, so I’m conflicted.

If, on the other hand, your sensibilities are truly offended, drop a line to Gentoo’s Developer Relations. The forums aren’t likely to discipline me (php scripts really don’t scare me that much — they do, just not that much). Also, you can drop Daniel a line, since he started this planet. Finally, you have recourse to approach the infra team.

The most effective would be the last two, because they’re providing the resources for me to even blog, and if either has issues with my one line, I’ll happily remove it.

  3. Offended? Well, perhaps slightly. More annoyed really.
More so with the situation over at the shop, but you can’t post comments there 😉
This is the third site I frequent that has put up free ipod/ipod photo/flat screen tv/mac mini links.

The shop situation is the most aggrevated in my eyes but that is already being torn apart at the forums so I won’t rant about it here.

As for Heimdal, I think it should be hacked up and boiled together with something ldappy for a secure and free gentoo directory service, Gentoo Directory anyone? I’m just as fond of MS bashing as the next guy but AD is great. Never heard even heard of shishi but I’ll give it a spin.

  4. Well, ldap + kerberos is actually one of my goals here at work, though I’ll need to tie them both in with Samba. There’s a lot of work going on with Samba4 to be able to make it work well and seamlessly with kerberos (though I keep hearing talk of their own internal ldap server). It’s been a while since I did a svn checkout of samba4, but probably in the next fortnight I’ll be looking at that again. I don’t think Gentoo Directory (TM) is a necessarily accurate term since the software in portage is the same software that ships with every other distribution, and can be from scratched (TM). I rather think that the open source community in general should (and is already, actually) be working on a single-sign on directory locator type thing. I think in the next 6 months, we’ll see a tighter integration of samba, kerberos and ldap. I’ve not actually tried AD, by the way, so I have no frame of reference on the microsoft side of things. Please let me know what you find when you try shishi, I’d love a review.
