Since I am listed as the contact for OLS on the Gentoo events page I expected to receive at least one email from other Gentoo devs or users that are going to OLS. I am planning to at least have a Gentoo BOFS (birds of a feather session). The one we had last year was fairly successful in my opinion (even though at the time I was there as a user), and I certainly would like to have another this year.

At the moment, the only Gentoo people I know are going to OLS are me, deltacow and gregkh. I am very interested in knowing if there are other devs or users that are going to be there this year.

The Gentoo BOFS at the Ottawa Linux Symposium will be taking place at 8:00PM Friday in Room “A”.

I have set up a Gentoo BOFS at the Ottawa Linux Symposium for Friday af 7:00PM. The location is still TBA, I will post again once I know the exact location. I encourage any Gentoo users to attend, there will be at least 3 Gentoo developers there, as well as (if last year is any indication) a large number of users.

There has been a lot of noise lately about the fact that xorg-x11-7.1 was put into ~arch before nvidia and ati drivers have versions that work with it.

I don’t think any open source project should be forced to hold back their development simply because some hardware company refuses to release open source drivers or at least specifications.

If you need binary drivers and are running ~arch, simply mask the new xorg until ati and/or nvidia get off their asses and catch up. In case you don’t know how to mask it (though you really should if you are going to be running ~arch) simply put the following in /etc/portage/package.mask
