universally appealing
Am I the only one that finds the universe a much more interesting and enjoyable read than the planet? Blog aggregation is about exposing people to each other, in this case developers to the user community as well as to each other, not reading a ChangeLog.

No you're not! It's been some time now since I last went to the planet URL, the universe is much more interesting
And anyway, why limit yourself to a small planet when you can have the entire planet? ;)

I'm only a Gentoo user, but even I prefer the universe to the planet. IIRC though, there's a vocal minority who don't want to see anything but Gentoo use on the planet; I'd be interested to see webstats that confirm or deny that impression.

I completely agree. Devs are human and users want to know what they think on certain issues as well as knowing what's in cvs.
It is easy to this way before the planet/universe started: just go to the forums and look at Off The Wall and Gentoo Chat. Two large areas where likeminded users can chat about (almost) anything.
Seeing devs as reachable always helps to create a community, the opposite to that is seeing them as elite and unapproachable.
