In >=portage-2.2_rc2<\/a> there are a few new emerge options that many Gentoo users will probably be interested in:<\/p>\n

--jobs JOBS\r\n\tSpecifies the number of packages to build simultaneously.\r\n\tAlso see the related --load-average option.\r\n\r\n--keep-going\r\n\tContinue as much as possible after an error. When an error\r\n\toccurs, dependencies are recalculated for remaining packages\r\n\tand any with unsatisfied dependencies are automatically\r\n\tdropped. Also see the related --skipfirst option.\r\n\r\n--load-average LOAD\r\n\tSpecifies that no new builds should be started if there are\r\n\tother builds running and the load average is at least LOAD (a\r\n\tfloating-point number). This option is recommended for use in\r\n\tcombination with --jobs in order to avoid excess load. See\r\n\tmake(1) for information about analogous options that should\r\n\tbe configured via MAKEOPTS in make.conf(5).<\/pre>\n
Here is some sample parallel build output from a catalyst<\/a> stage2 build, with emerge’s new –jobs option enabled:<\/p>\n
