This policy is the\u00a0result of\u00a0work that has been slowly progressing since 2005, and\u00a0that has taken considerable speed by\u00a0the\u00a0end of\u00a02017.  It is a\u00a0major step forward from the\u00a0status quo that has been used since the\u00a0forming of\u00a0Gentoo Foundation, and\u00a0that mostly has been inherited from\u00a0earlier Gentoo Technologies.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0policy aims to\u00a0cover all copyright-related aspects, bringing Gentoo in\u00a0line with the\u00a0practices used in\u00a0many other large open source projects.
