{"id":13,"date":"2006-10-16T13:22:07","date_gmt":"2006-09-11T04:18:41","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2017-03-07T16:50:24","modified_gmt":"2017-03-07T16:50:24","slug":"gentoo_australia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.gentoo.org\/mark_alec\/2006\/10\/16\/gentoo_australia\/","title":{"rendered":"Gentoo Australia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While reading <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apcstart.com\/site\/\">Australian Personal Computer<\/a> magazine I came across an interview with one of the members of the <a href=\"https:\/\/wiki.ubuntu.com\/AustralianTeam\">Ubuntu Australian Team.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This together with events such as the <a href=\"http:\/\/dev.gentoo.org\/~dsd\/gentoo-uk-2006\/\">Gentoo UK 2006 Conference<\/a> have pursuaded me that I would like to create a similar community in Australia.<\/p>\n<p>So, 4 weeks 5 days (16h 56m 15s) ago I decided to revive the #gentoo-au channel on <a href=\"http:\/\/freenode.net\/\">Freenode.<\/a>  Currently there are a few less than a dozen different people in it, but the community seems to slowly be growing thanks to word of mouth, and the forum <a href=\"http:\/\/forums.gentoo.org\/viewtopic-p-3510617.html#3510617\">thread<\/a> I made some ago.<\/p>\n<p>Plans still need to be written up for a website, that will contain all the information necessary to organise conferences down under.  My goal is to aim for a mini-conf at <a href=\"http:\/\/linux.conf.au\">linux.conf.au 2008<\/a>.
