    Ctrl+V is not a good thing on irc if there is a username stored in the clipboard
    This reminds me of some other (not published) log that clearly shows that Ctrl+V is even worse if there is a password stored in the clipboard

    You should use irssi.
    They only thing I have to do is:
    use Irssi;
    sub highlight {my ($d,$r,$n)=$_[0]=~/^(d+?) (d+?) (.*)$/;
    sleep($d),$_[2]->command(“MSG “.$_[2]->{name}.” “.$n) while(0<$r–);}
    Irssi::command_bind('highlight','highlight');
