Tomáš (scarabeus) and I decided it was time to do another round of stabilizations.
Back in September when we stabilized xorg-server 1.6, upstream was in the process of releasing Xorg 7.5 (which includes xorg-server 1.7, are you still following?). So at that time, we decided to still go ahead with 1.6 and include the bits of 1.7 that were available and compatible.
Now that 7.5 has been fully released, we’re doing another mass stabilization… but without xorg-server 1.7. While the server itself is very stable, a few drivers still aren’t compatible with it. So we’re not going to stabilize it now. So we’re just stabilizing utilities and a few drivers, nothing major.
So yet again, I’m requesting help from stable users:
- go to the stabilization bug,
- grab the latest stabilization list and copy it to
/etc/portage/package.keywords, - update your system with
emerge -DuNa world.
As always, bugs should be filed in bugzilla, not in the comments.
It would be nice to push mesa 1.6 as intel recommend in
http://intellinuxgraphics.org/2009Q3.html
or stabilize media-libs/mesa-7.5.2 at least

Cool! Sometimes I feel Gentoo stable is forgotten about.
Rémi: It’s true, that’s why we’re trying to have more frequent stabilizations in X land. The more we do it, the easier it gets! 🙂
I’m lost on one thing (even if I know I should know given that scarabeus did explain that to me before :P): is that the xorg-server version I’m opening the bugs about?
If you want to find all the failing drivers, let me know with a mail; I’ve been thinking about halting and re-starting the tinderbox round (it’s a long story) so I could use that time to force priority over the x11-drivers section; I can probably go through that in a day if you wish me to do that.
I’m running into the same problem as bug# 291312; My understanding is that we are using drivers and supporting packages for xorg-server 1.7, but only using xorg-server 1.6.5{-r1}. The solution I’m reading in the bugs is to go to xorg 1.7.1, but that was specifically noted as not necessary. I’ve seen several bugs marked as dupes, and I see my build as being fairly similar to those listed in the bugs…
I’m very happy to add a file into my .keywords file, I ran with 1.5 and 1.6 to try to shake some bugs out, and this is the first one I’ve hit. So good job!
I’d file a bug, but my input would duplicate those other bugs. Recomendations?
