Never mind. I changed to jUploadr, which is cross-platform, nice native GUI, and works with the latest Flickr API. See my blog for more on my experiences.

I've been playing around with Glimmr today and then found this blog. What is the current situation with Glimmr? any progress? It would be nice if the project web page reflected the fact that the current codebase is not being updated any more.
Most of the Windows uploading tools seem to think nothing of using the browser to do the authentication, and I'm not sure I'd care too much about it happening on Linux - although with multiple desktops it might not be immediately obvious that a browser window had opened.

I completely agree. Devs are human and users want to know what they think on certain issues as well as knowing what's in cvs.
It is easy to this way before the planet/universe started: just go to the forums and look at Off The Wall and Gentoo Chat. Two large areas where likeminded users can chat about (almost) anything.
Seeing devs as reachable always helps to create a community, the opposite to that is seeing them as elite and unapproachable.
