For your font problem in Firefox, I suggest you get the Stylish extension. It allows you to set custom CSS rules for specific sites.

Under Ubuntu, could you post up the output of:
# dmesg
# hciconfig -a
# hciconfig -a hci0 revision

I'm interested as to why Gentoo didn't pick up your BlueTooth. The same commands from Gentoo later on too please.

Why don't you just install the Xubuntu desktop if you prefer xfce?

sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop

Then switch your session to xfce at the login prompt and make it default.
